I fail as a Nantes rep. But then our beginning of season has been made of fail. But this deserved its own post.

Goal scored by Mareval against Marseille this week. Some already call it the "goal of the year". What do you think?

Here's THAT press conference in case you haven't seen it. In all of its bizarre, ultra-awkward glory. Wow. Seriously. It's awkward.

I can't begin to fathom what went down in Hatem's private meeting with Eric G. Eric looks vaguely shellshocked. Dumbfounded. Embarrassed. Confounded. We could go on. But as bizarrely Hatem as an impromptu public apology is, nothing beats Marseille's decision not to punish him. At all. No fine, no suspension. Boy, that won't set a precedent or anything. Obviously. This must be some exciting new psychological approach. Or he had the mother of all excuses.

[As someone who can't stand to make eye contact, I'm obviously over-fixating on how Eric can't or won't look at Hatem until his back is turned. Like I said. Awkward.]

Not like this will help but..

PARIS (AFP) - The referee who gave Lyon a last-gasp penalty in the French champions’ controversial 3-2 win over rivals Nice on Saturday has admitted he made a blunder.

Jean-Charles Cailleux on Sunday told French radio station RTL he should not have awarded the spot-kick - converted by Lyon’s Karim Benzema in the fourth minute of stoppage time - as no infringement had taken place.

Cailleux said he did not have a clear view of the incident involving Nice defender Vincent Hognon, adding that he blew for hand ball based on the call of his linesman.

“When I saw the images on TV there was clearly contact with the hand, but it was involuntary,” said Cailleux. “I shouldn’t have blown for this fault and it should never have been a penalty.”

Lyon’s win saw them go joint top with Marseille, who drew 1-1 with Bordeaux, with Paris Saint Germain set to play Nantes later on Sunday.

This might just be the first time you'll hear me complain about Lyon winning. BUT JUST THAT LAST GOAL. It looked so suspicious. I think that in this case with the time in mind and the shady gray circumstance, the ref should have given Nice the benefit of the doubt and pass on the call. Now everyone is outraged because the richer team won (and perhaps, not the "better" team). Though I did feel that Nice were damn lucky on those first two goals.

Juni you are still amazing and I'm sorry for ever doubting you. (Also the score: 3-2 Lyon)

Happy happy, but lame

On the other hand, Bordeaux - OM was so boring and uneventful -- only the first about 25' was DSFJDSLFJLDSFDS EXCITING exciting. ):

Hi! To be honest I am not that into French football so this question is probably very newbielike. This summer one of my team's players moved to League 1. I miss him a lot and I am very curious to see his goals. So I was wondering if you guys knew any sites that show the goals scored in the league? A decent newssite (French or English) would also be great. I tried to use google but I thought I'd ask here too :) Thanks.

You know, the next Zidane (after Nasri, Benzema and ben Arfa, of course). It seems like the motto of French players these days are "get good, get out". Not like that haven't been the motto for years past.

Anyway, I hope he does well in Italy (and try not to ruin the Bordelais in Champions League wait, here it comes, WOEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE). More info at l'equipe.

More picturesCollapse )

Enjoy your new Giuly replacement Roma! He is amazing too!

These days I'm busy blogging for Bordeaux, but I don't have much time to do more Lyon oriented posts ):
But, here you go, an interview (click on the image).

He talks about why he chose Bordeaux and compares Italian League and French League, etc.

OL Groupe published a recent financial report on the club. It's actually quite interesting to see the amount of the money they're making (and it looks like they're getting richer).

I've got nothing to post but I felt like posting something. Sue me. I don't want to look at Placente and his pierced eyebrows all the time.
I have no pictures atm, sorry. :/

This guy signed for them, this one wants to leave, this one has left, but they got a different Ghanaian, and are looking into another.
So -
In: Carlos Bocanegra (D, free), Asamoah Gyan (F, Udinese) are in
Possibly in: John Boye (D, Heart of Lions)
Out: John Mensah (D, to Lyon)
Possibly out: Jimmy Briand (F, wants to go to PSG), Sylvain Wiltord (F, is also wanted by PSG)

Also, they beat SC Tavriya Simferopol in the Intertoto Cup, so they're off to the UEFA Cup.

And a French question? I can sort of guess my way through websites since I speak English and know some Spanish, but can someone tell what these words are? I'd look them up but I don't know if they'd be in the appropriate sports context: foul, red/yellow card, injury, referee, goal (the goal itself and the thing you score), and whatever else would be useful when looking through French stuff. (Thanks if you can help!)

Ignore the mean commentary, I mean to post to my own journal.

Paris hope to land Nesta.

That really put me in a laughing fit. I really want to say "dream on", but PSG is really close to being the most hated club after Juventus.

I mean...
Lyon can afford Eto'o
is even more plausible.

You know how I used to think Kevin Mirallas is COMPLETELY adorable? Guess what,
He wants to join Les Verts

I saw this a while ago but
Lyon wants to trade Källström for Piquionne
Kim says no, though. Thank god (for me.) Do we need another striker? Esp. if you want to land Eto'o JMA...

And because Bordeaux is now *officially* my responsibility..we might be see Alonso go to Monaco or PSG..though none of them have placed an offer yet. They want a loan and Bordeaux want to sell, and Alonso just wants more money.

Placente is also in Bordeaux for his medical. Let's hope this goes well. According to the article, he's had problems before..
